Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 1 cups choley / white chickpeas(soaked overnight)


  • 2 tsp tea leaves


  • 1 cups chopped onion


  • 1 cups chopped tomato


  • 1 inch ginger chopped


  • 2-3 nos green chili


  • 1 tsp mango powder


  • 1-2 tsp turmeric powder


  • 1 pinch salt to taste


  • 2 tbsp tamarind paste


  • 4 tbsp oil


  • 4-5 nos fresh coriander leaves for garnishing


  • 2 cups for the tea water/decoction : water


  • 2-3 tbsp black tea leaves


  • 1 tbsp dry roast the below spices till fragrant and slightly black in colour and grind to make a powder : jeera


  • 1 tbsp anardana


  • 1 tsp fennel seeds/saunf


  • 1/2 tsp carom seeds/ajwain


  • 2 tbsp coriander seeds


  • 7-8 nos cloves


  • 12-15 nos black peppercorns


  • 2 nos black cardamom


  • 2 nos green cardamom


  • 1 inch cinnamon


  • 2-3 inch dry red chilies

Directions

  • Boil the tea leaves in 2 cups of water. Strain and keep it aside.
  • Add soaked choley, black tea water, salt and some more water in a pressure cooker and cook till choley are done.
  • Add oil in a kadai/pan. When the oil is hot enough, add the chopped onions and fry till golden brown.
  • Add tomato, ginger and green chili and fry for another 2 minutes on high heat.
  • Add the grounded homemade chana masala. Add turmeric powder, mix well and little water, cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Add the cooked choley along with the water. Cook for 10-12 minutes on medium heat. Stir occasionally.
  • Adjust salt as required. Add tamarind pulp and mix well. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
